AdvertisementFor months, the House has been sitting on a bill that would provide aid to Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, and humanitarian funding for Gaza. But many, if not most, House Republicans are opposed to further Ukraine aid, and House Speaker Mike Johnson now has to deal with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's threat to call a vote on his ouster if he allows more Ukraine aid to pass. AdvertisementMany Republicans oppose Ukraine aid, while Democrats are increasingly skeptical of Israel aidJohnson's plan is aimed at addressing two separate pockets of opposition to the foreign aid package. After October 7, the Biden administration and Senate leaders insisted on tying Israel and Ukraine aid together, with the idea being that including Israel aid would incentivize Republicans to swallow more Ukraine aid. Johnson's plan is designed to allow progressive Democrats to vote against Israel aid, while hard-right Republicans can vote against the Ukraine aid — all while allowing the whole package to move forward.

The SAT and the Supreme Court

After the Supreme Court banned race-based affirmative action last year, many people in higher education worried that it would be only the first in a series of decisions that reduced diversity at selective schools. In particular, university administrators and professors thought the court might soon ban admissions policies that gave applicants credit for overcoming poverty. And the future of admissions at selective colleges and high schools has suddenly become clearer. The Texas modelThe situation has become clearer because the Supreme Court last week declined to hear a lawsuit against a public magnet school in Northern Virginia — Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, known as T.J.Until recently, T.J. admitted students based on a mix of grades, test scores, student essays and teacher recommendations. This process led to a student body that looked very different from the area it served.

The House voted on a resolution affirming Israel's right to exist on Tuesday. All but two members who cast a vote, voted for it. Rep. Rashida Tlaib voted "present," while Rep. Thomas Massie voted against it. AdvertisementThe House of Representatives on Tuesday overwhelmingly passed a resolution affirming Israel's right to exist, and only two members did not vote in favor of it. The resolution also states that "denying Israel's right to exist is a form of antisemitism" — which Massie took issue with.

A new ProPublica report uncovered another undisclosed trip made by SCOTUS Justice Clarence Thomas. Either way, in 2018, the controversial judge flew into California's Coachella Valley for one of the snazziest events of the year. Of course, the event Thomas went to had nothing to do with the beloved music festival. Per the publication, a network of nonprofits handled by Charles Koch, an influential conservative, hosts its largest fundraiser in the Coachella Valley every winter. In 2010, reporters uncovered Thomas ' attendance at 2008's GOP-chella.

Justice Clarence Thomas' acceptance of lavish gifts stretches back decades, per a new NYT report. These include his 1987 wedding reception, paid for by a friend before he joined the Supreme Court, it said. In its latest report, the Times detailed lavish gifts, some of which pre-date Thomas' time on the Supreme Court. "And, in return, he opened up the Supreme Court." Thomas is far from the only Supreme Court Justice to have received expensive gifts in the course of their tenure.

Here are just a few: What do you think about the use of stop-loss orders? The short answer is we don't use stop-loss orders at the Club. A stop-loss order includes a predetermined price that when (or if) hit converts to a market order. Whereas the stop-loss order will convert to a market order once the stop-loss price is hit, this order will convert to a limit order. But at the Club, we prefer to stick with market orders for all our trades to get the best possible prices.

GOP megadonor Harlan Crow has been secretly funding lavish vacations for Justice Clarence Thomas. But he's also given thousands to Democrats who've stymied the party's agenda at various times. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, as well as Reps. Josh Gottheimer and Henry Cuellar. According to federal campaign finance data, the Texas billionaire has given $16,800 to Rep. Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey since 2018, contributing thousands as recently as October 2022. For his part, Crow told ProPublica in a statement that he and his wife "have never sought to influence Justice Thomas on any legal or political issue."
US Air Mobility Command has ordered its refueling and cargo planes to obscure their identifying markings. "At the end of the day, it's still very clearly an Air Force plane unless you're going to start painting them white or something," Paladino said. A US Air Force C-130 with most of its markings removed at Rafael Hernández International Airport in Puerto Rico on February 25. Minihan's memo, which was leaked in late January, highlights the mentality and war footing on which he's placed Air Mobility Command, which has historically been used as a support organization for combat operations. Air Mobility Command played a major role in the Afghanistan evacuation in 2021 and continues to help deliver weapons and aid to Ukraine in its fight against Russia.
Rep. George Santos' federal political committees listed a mysterious new treasurer, CNN reported. Curiously, the treasurer's address is listed as the apartment where Santos' sister used to live. The address has also previously been listed by Santos himself as his address on campaign documents. Employees at three businesses in the building told CNN that Andrew Olson was not a name they recognized. CNN's Manu Raju approached Santos on Capitol Hill on Wednesday to ask about Olson, but Santos did not answer any questions.
The defense policy bill for 2023 will allow the US Air Force to retire 21 A-10 Warthogs. The Air Force has wanted to get rid A-10s for years, but Congress has blocked it from doing so. The Air Force has another 260 A-10s in service, but lawmakers may be more open to scrapping them. That Air National Guard wing previously flew earlier models of the F-16 until they were replaced — to much fanfare — with the Warthog back in 2010. Airmen reconfigure weapons on an A-10 during an exercise at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida in November 2019.
Walton & Hersham FC traces its roots to 1895 and played at Wembley, but it had fallen on hard times. My first memory of football was when I was 5 and my dad took me to watch Walton & Hersham FC play AFC Wimbledon. One Saturday in 2018, I decided to take a break from my university studies and watch a Walton & Hersham FC match with my dad. Under the new owners, Walton & Hersham FC has been promoted twice. We're not on the same scale as "Welcome to Wrexham," but we recognized the financial anguish that comes with owning a football club.
